Morinello Hopeful Percoco Conviction Will Jumpstart Ethics Reform
Days after Joe Percoco was convicted of three felonies, Assemblyman Angelo J. Morinello (R,C,I-Ref-Niagara Falls) is making another push for ethics reform in Albany. Last year, Morinello unveiled an array of ethics reform bills to reconstruct the way New York state government is run, but the Assembly Majority has blocked them from a vote. This legislation would establish term limits, impose fines on officials who misuse public resources for their campaigns and get big money out of politics, ensuring special interests are kept out of the process.
“News of Joe Percoco’s conviction should alert all members of the Legislature to the massive lack of ethics and accountability in Albany,” said Morinello. “Our current system is flawed and it’s time to change the way our state government is run. I ran for office with the intent to clean up Albany and eliminate corruption, ensuring state officials work for all New Yorkers, rather than themselves. We cannot continue turning a blind eye to corrupt officials like Percoco, who steal from taxpayers for personal gain, and I’m hopeful this recent conviction will lead to serious action.”
