Morinello Calls To Restore Funding For The Disabled Community
Today, Angelo J. Morinello (R,C,I,Ref-Niagara Falls) joined Assemblywoman Melissa Miller (R,C,Ref-Atlantic Beach), Angelas House Founder Bob Policastro, Douglas King, a disability rights advocate, and fellow legislators at a hold a press conference calling for the governor to restore $75 million to the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP), a statewide Medicaid program that provides alternative ways of receiving at-home care services that allows consumers more control over who provides their care and how it is provided. These cuts will negatively impact those with disabilities, along with senior citizens who utilize this program. The cuts were laid out in the 2019-20 Executive Budget.
I was pleased to attend todays press conference targeting the need to restore much-needed funding for the CDPAP, and I applaud all those taking a stand on this critical issue, said Morinello. This program significantly benefits New Yorks disabled and senior citizen community, ensuring they have someone helping them at home and in the community. Our direct-care workers are some of the hardest working individuals in our state and we should do everything we can to properly fund this program that benefits so many New Yorkers.
