Santabarbara Joins The Alliance for a Hunger Free New York to Tackle Food Insecurity
January 9, 2024
New York State is falling behind in addressing the needs of our communities; 2.2 million New Yorkers are considered food insecure, including more than one in seven children. With the removal of Covid-era benefits and the effects of inflation, NYS Community Food Providers (food pantries and soup kitchens) are seeing continued increases in service levels.
In fact, food insecurity is growing faster in NYS than it is nationwide. From 2021 to 2023, 87% more New Yorkers did not have enough to eat in a one-week period, compared to only 35% more people nationwide, according to the U.S. Census Bureau Household Pulse Survey. NYS must act now.
