Santabarbara: Statement on $10M in NY SWIMS Funding for Capital Region Aquatic Center

“Today’s announcement of a $10 million allocation from the NY SWIMS initiative coming for the development of a state-of-the-art aquatic center at SUNY Schenectady is exciting news. This, in addition to the 5 million I secured from the State Assembly for the project is another big win for our community. This facility will serve as a cornerstone for our region, offering a wide range of programs – from competitive swimming events to learn- to-swim classes for all ages. Designed with inclusivity and accessibility in mind, it will ensure that everyone in the Capital Region has access to top-notch swimming and water safety resources.

Beyond its health and wellness benefits, the aquatic center is poised to become an economic driver for our area. By attracting visitors for swimming meets and competitions, it will support local businesses and contribute to the region's economic vitality. This project is more than just a pool – it's a long-term investment in the well-being and future of our community.”
