Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara to Host Annual Women of Distinction Ceremony

Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara will host a special Women of Distinction Ceremony to honor remarkable local women for their exceptional contributions and accomplishments. This event celebrates those who have made a lasting impact through their dedication to their professions, community service, and advocacy, showcasing the diverse fields and backgrounds of the honorees, each bringing unique strengths to our community.
This year’s distinguished honorees include:
- Maura Furey: Maura Furey co-founded the Schenectady chapter of StreetSoldiers, volunteering weekly to support neighbors in need, and has been actively involved with the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, the American Diabetes Association, and the Air and Waste Management Association.
- Jennifer Hendricks Fogg: Jennifer Hendricks-Fogg is an inspiration for her work supporting families of special needs children, drawing from her experiences as a mother to her son Logan, who has faced cancer and other challenges. As a speaker, coach, and founder of the Logan Strong Foundation, Jennifer embodies resilience and offers hope to those navigating similar journeys.
- Shawnta Rivas: Shawnta Rivas has made exceptional contributions to the Schenectady community, particularly through the Random Santa Drop-Offs and the 518 Common Unity Cup. Her leadership at COCOA House has also made a meaningful impact on the youth of the Hamilton Hill Community, providing essential resources and support.
- Janice Kilicharan: An immigrant from Trinidad and Tobago, Janice Kallicharan has been a beloved local business owner in Schenectady since 2003. Her achievements, including opening the first West Indian hair and beauty salon in the area and actively participating in property rejuvenation, have made a significant impact on her community.
- Sylvia Jimison: Recently retired from her role with the City of Schenectady, Sylvia Jimison has made significant contributions to education and community service. Her leadership in academic settings and her impactful volunteer work with low-income individuals reflect her commitment to empowering others. With over 15 years of experience and dedication to programs like GED and College Prep, Sylvia embodies the spirit of resilience and community uplift.
- Heather Lopez: Heather Lopez is a dedicated board member and Resource and Development Chairwoman for Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County since 2014, along with her impactful contributions to the Montgomery County SPCA and various community initiatives. Her commitment to community enrichment is further demonstrated through her roles as a CPR instructor, face painter at local events, and organizer of Thanksgiving food drive distributions.
- Rebekka Henriksen: Rebekka Henriksen is dedicated to enhancing educational opportunities through sustainable initiatives in the Schenectady City School District. As the Farm to School Project Manager, she has been instrumental in integrating school gardens, coordinating grant-funded programs, and fostering hands-on learning experiences for students.
