Santabarbara Statement on the Passing of President Carter

ā€œIā€™m deeply saddened by the passing of former President Jimmy Carter, a man whose life was marked by his dedication to public service and humanitarian efforts. His commitment to improving the lives of others was exemplified through his extensive work with Habitat for Humanity, where he and his wife, Rosalynn, labored tirelessly to build and renovate homes for those in need.

In Rotterdam, we hold a special connection to President Carter. From October 1952 to October 1953, he and Rosalynn resided in our community while he pursued studies in nuclear physics at Union College. To honor this significant chapter of his life, a monument stands in Rotterdam, commemorating their time here. Recently, I had the privilege of participating in the restoration of this monument, ensuring that President Carter's legacy remains a visible and enduring part of our local history.

President Carter's profound impact on our nation and the world is immeasurable. His commitment to peace, human rights, and service to others serves as an enduring inspiration. As we mourn his loss, let us also celebrate a life exceptionally well-lived, dedicated to the betterment of humanity.ā€
