State Budget Continues Nearly $1 Million Investment in Proctors Theatre, Santabarbara Announces

Funding supports Downtown Schenectady’s economy, arts, and community

Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara today announced that the 2026-27 New York State Budget includes $968,000 for Proctors Theatre through the Alive Downtown initiative, continuing the state’s investment in one of downtown Schenectady’s most important economic and cultural anchors.

The funding will help sustain performances, educational programming, and community events while strengthening the economic activity Proctors generates throughout downtown Schenectady. Each year, hundreds of thousands of visitors attend Broadway productions, concerts, and other events at Proctors, supporting local restaurants, small businesses, hotels, and the surrounding business district.

“Proctors has been at the heart of Schenectady’s downtown resurgence for decades,” said Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara. “Every performance brings people into our city who eat in our restaurants, shop at our local businesses, and experience everything downtown Schenectady has to offer. This investment recognizes that the arts are more than entertainment—they’re a powerful economic engine that supports jobs, strengthens small businesses, and helps keep our downtown vibrant.”

The Alive Downtown initiative provides targeted investments in historic performing arts venues that serve as catalysts for economic development, tourism, and community revitalization.

“This funding could not come at a better time,” said Philip Morris, CEO of Proctors Collaborative. “As we continue to recover and rebuild from the challenges of the past few years, this investment helps us sustain the vibrant programming and educational outreach that make Proctors a cornerstone of our community. We’re deeply grateful to Assemblyman Santabarbara for championing the arts and recognizing the vital role Proctors plays in downtown Schenectady’s continued resurgence.”

Proctors has played a central role in Schenectady’s transformation into a regional destination for arts, entertainment, dining, and culture. This continued investment helps ensure the theater remains a driving force for economic growth while enriching the quality of life for residents and visitors alike.
