In an effort to boost support for ride-sharing services in Upstate NY, Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara will be joined by Uber Technologies, Inc. in the City of Schenectady for a first-hand look at the latest ride sharing technology and demonstrate its use with an actual “Uber Car” making a first appearance in the City of Schenectady. “Over the last decade, we have seen the transformation of cities like Schenectady into a vibrant upstate destination. With projects like the Rivers Casino & Resort expected to open its doors next week, bringing with it thousands of regional visitors, now is the time to do more,” Assemblyman Santabarbara said. “This first time appearance and demonstration of just how easy and convenient ride-sharing can be will shine a light on just how important it is to the Schenectady area.”
“There is no question that the Capital Region desperately needs ride-sharing. With the pending opening of the Rivers Casino and the Albany Capital Center, the time to act is now. Lawmakers in Albany can no longer delay allowing Uber and Lyft in Upstate New York,” said Mark Eagan, CEO, Capital Region Chamber.
"New Yorkers from every corner of the State are demanding ride-sharing services like Uber in their communities. We are excited to work with Assemblyman Santabarbara to show the magic of the Uber app and hope that Albany listens to the voices of New Yorkers to make affordable, reliable transportation options a reality for Upstate,” said Josh Mohrer, General Manager, Uber NY.
"Guests of other Rush Street Gaming properties in markets like Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Des Plaines, outside of Chicago, benefit greatly from having the option to choose ride-sharing as a form of safe and reliable transportation to and from the casino," said Rivers Casino & Resort General Manager Mary Cheeks. "I am both personally and professionally supportive of bringing ride-sharing to New York's Capital Region.”
Efforts to permit and regulate ride-sharing services upstate were unsuccessful during the past legislative session, but Santabarbara has been tirelessly working to call for action on this issue this session.
