Assemblyman Santabarbara: Water Quality Conservation Projects Move Forward in Montgomery County with $770,000 in State Funding
New measures protect local waterways and support agriculture
Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara announced water quality protection projects on two local farms in Montgomery County that will move forward with $770,000 in state funding. New measures will focus on waste storage and transfer systems on the MMT Cattle Inc. Farm in the Village of Fonda and Viet Farms in the Town of Minden.
The funding will come through the Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation Waste Storage and Transfer System Program, supporting the projects to implement safe storage and management of farming nutrients for protecting of ground water and local waterways. The program is part of the New York State Clean Water Infrastructure Act of 2017, approved in this year’s state budget. As a civil engineer, Assemblyman Santabarbara played a key role in crafting parts of the program that has also funded a variety of the recent infrastructure projects now underway in the City of Amsterdam.
“Here in the Mohawk Valley, hardworking farmers are at the heart of New York's history of a thriving agriculture and they have my commitment that I'll keep working to make sure we continue to preserve that legacy, especially here in Montgomery County,” said Assemblyman Santabarbara, who serves on the NY State Assembly’s Committee on Agriculture. “This funding is a commitment to preserving the local waterways our communities depend on, and supporting the family farms that are vital to the local economy.”
