Assemblyman Santabarbara Announces State Funding for Local Libraries
Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara announced today that the New York State Library and New York State Education Department have approved funding for local public library construction projects. These projects are supported by an initiative that Assemblyman Santabarbara advocated for in this year’s state budget.
“An investment in our libraries is an investment in our communities,” said Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara. “During the state budget process, I insisted that libraries must not be left behind,” Santabarbara said. “This funding will help our libraries continue to serve local families and provide our community with an incredible resource.”
State Aid for Library Construction assists local libraries with construction projects and provides funding for up-to-date technology and resources to accommodate their communities. Many public libraries are unable to accommodate users with disabilities, are not energy efficient, are in outdated buildings, and do not have sufficient space to house the additional resources they now provide.
“With this funding, a number of projects important to the success of our local libraries will now be possible, including measures that ensure more comfort and accommodations for those with disabilities,” Assemblyman Santabarbara added.
State Aid for Library Construction provided:
- $179,882 to the Fort Plain Free Library for an expansion project and interior renovations;
- $111,583 to the Schenectady County Public Library for needed electrical and plumbing repairs and upgrades to the HVAC systems;
- $17,636 to the Berne Public Library for roofing repairs and installation of energy efficient LED light fixtures.
