Assemblyman Santabarbara: Disappointed by Amtrak's Decision to End Annual Toys for Tots Train
Decision leaves organizers with truckloads of holiday gifts and no way to transport them
Thousands of children and families look forward to this annual tradition that has brought our community together in the spirit of giving for nearly 20 years. This wonderful holiday custom may now come to an end following Amtrak's decision that it no longer fits in their business model. This move will affect approximately 40,000 children, families who relied on the annual delivery of donated gifts that include winter coats and gloves.
In my Assembly District, it ends the annual stop in the Village of Delanson which will leave many local children disappointed this holiday season. I urge Amtrak to reconsider this poor decision that reflects negatively on them as a corporate citizen.
I'm thankful to US Marine Corps for their incredible work that has made the annual Capital Region Toys for Tots a success, delivering to more than 160,000 children just last year. It's encouraging to know that they still plan to move forward with this year's campaign and I look forward to assisting them in any way that I can.
