Earlier this year, Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara announced legislation he authored to offer New York State veterans that are members of AMVETS a unique license plate was signed into law – ATTENTION NEW YORK STATE VETERANS: the first AMVETS License Plates are now available throughout the State from the Department of Motor Vehicles.
With more than 250,000 members, AMVETS is the largest and oldest Veteran Service Organization in the country that supports and assists the men and women, who are currently serving or have served, in the U.S. Armed Forces from World War II until now, including the National Guard and Reserves.
Having served in the U.S. Army Reserve, as a past commander of AMVETS Post 35 and on the New York State Assembly’s Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, Santabarbara has been a tireless advocate for legislation and funding that supports and honors veterans.
“New York State is home to the largest veteran population in the country and it’s important that we not only acknowledge their sacrifices in service to our nation, but also the work that they continue to do in our community,” Santabarbara said. “These unique plates will not only display patriotism and pride, they also serve as another daily reminder to remember the brave men and women who serve our country.”
“So many veterans in New York State continue to serve their communities through AMVETS and these specialized license plates let us display our patriotism and the pride we have in this organization,” said Doug Vanlderstyne, past Commander of AMVETS Post 35, Rotterdam, NY.
Plates are available through the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles Custom Plate Unit, PO Box 2775, Albany, New York 12220-7775.
