Assemblyman Santabarbara Announces State Funds for Amsterdam Farm
Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara announced that Lovin Mama Farm in Amsterdam is set to receive more than $22,000 in state funds for greenhouses, equipment and supplies to expand production and extend their agricultural season. The funds are provided through the New Farmers Grant Fund, an initiative funded in the state budget to help new farms expand and diversify agricultural production, extend their growing season, and employ new innovative techniques that increase sustainable agricultural production practices. This funding means better farming practices and an extended growing season for the Lovin Mama Farm here in Amsterdam, said Assemblyman Santabarbara.
The New Farmers Grant Fund is administered by Empire State Development, in consultation with the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets. Applications are scored based on specific criteria, including demonstrating how the project expands or diversifies agricultural production. The program provides grants of up to $50,000 to assist with eligible project costs. Santabarbara, a member of the State Assemblys Committee on Agriculture and Chair of the Commission Rural Resources, advocated for funding to support the programs.
Supporting new farms is essential to the future of agriculture in New York State, said Assemblyman Santabarbara. From my background as a Civil Engineer, I know how 21st century technology can help improve farm operations and support new farms as they grow, Assemblyman Santabarbara said. Helping new farms increase production supports the local economy and strengthens our agricultural community.
