Assemblyman Santabarbara’s Legislation Honoring Fallen State Trooper Sergeant Jeremy J. VanNostrand Signed into Law

Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara announced that his legislation designating a portion of Route 5s as the “Sergeant Jeremy J. VanNostrand Memorial Highway” unanimously passed the New York State Assembly and, today it was signed into law by Governor Cuomo. The bill renames the portion of the highway where Sergeant J. VanNostrand served at the Troop G Barracks are located as a tribute to his life of loyalty and dedication to the people of New York.

Santabarbara’s legislation was introduced at the request of Sergeant VanNostrand’s fellow officers in the New York State Police after he lost his life in the town of Glen on November 27, 2018 on his way to start his shift. Jeremy VanNostrand served the state of New York for more than a decade, working for the Department of corrections and then serving the State Police Troop G. This highway will serve as an ever-present memorial, honoring his life of sacrifice to the state of New York.

“This highway will serve not only as a tribute for the family of Sergeant VanNostrand, but for the community of the New York State Police,” said Assemblyman Santabarbara. “This man was an inspiration and a devoted officer to the people of New York,” Santabarbara said. “It is important we preserve his memory, and we honor him for the life of sacrifice he gave as a public servant. This memorial will commemorate the life of a man that gave of himself for the safety of others, and we will continue to remember the difference he made in our community and our state.”
