Assemblyman Santabarbara Announces State Funding for Libraries

$385,000 coming to Montgomery County libraries

Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara announced state funding approved for local public library construction projects. These projects are supported by an initiative that Assemblyman Santabarbara advocated for in this year’s state budget.

“An investment in our libraries is an investment in our communities,” said Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara. “During the state budget process, I insisted that libraries must not be left behind,” Santabarbara said. “This funding will help local libraries continue to serve the Montgomery County area and provide our communities with important resources.”

State Aid for Library Construction assists local libraries with construction projects and provides funding for up-to-date technology and resources to accommodate their communities. Many public libraries are unable to accommodate users with disabilities, are not energy efficient, are in outdated buildings, and do not have sufficient space to house the additional resources they now provide.

“With this funding, a number of projects important to the success of our local libraries will now be possible, including measures that ensure more comfort and accommodations for those with disabilities,” Assemblyman Santabarbara added.

State Aid for Library Construction provided:

  • $245,239 to the Fort Plain Free Library for a new addition and other exterior upgrades;
  • $72,941 to the Amsterdam Free Library for lighting upgrades;
  • $66,450 to the Canajoharie Library and Art Gallery for needed window renovations.

“Libraries give children and families the opportunity to read, learn explore together,” Santabarbara said. “From providing Internet access to offering job search assistance, they’re integral resources in our communities. This funding will help our libraries complete necessary renovations and expand their facilities so they can continue serving our residents for years to come.”
