Santabarbara Celebrates 100 Years of the Lanzi Family Restaurants with a NYS Assembly Proclamation

Congratulations to the Lanzi family celebrating the 100 Year Anniversary of their family-owned restaurant business last night at a small socially distant celebration. It was an honor and a privilege to present a proclamation from the New York State Assembly recognizing an amazing history that started when Luigi and Amalia Lanzi opened Lanzi’s Annex Italian Restaurant on Bridge Street on the south side of the City of Amsterdam, NY in 1920, beginning the Lanzi family’s journey into the restaurant business.

As we pause to acknowledge the past 100 years of the Lanzi family business and celebrate their success we also thank them for them for their service and contributions to our wonderful community, and continuing their family’s legacy, most recently, returning to their family’s roots on Amsterdam’s south side opening "Lorenzo’s Southside".

Whereas, it is the tradition of the State Assembly to acknowledge the many family-owned businesses in New York State, their amazing history and continued dedication to the communities they serve; and

Whereas, Luigi and Amalia Lanzi opened Lanzi’s Annex Italian Restaurant on Bridge Street on the south side of the City of Amsterdam, NY in 1920, beginning the Lanzi family’s historical journey into the restaurant business; and

Whereas, Lorenzo Lanzi, learning the trade from his father Luigi, opened Lorenzo’s Restaurant on Union Street in 1956 with his wife, Antoinette Gaetano, proudly serving their Amsterdam patrons for many years; and

Whereas, family always came first for Lorenzo and Antoinette Lanzi; they had nine children together, Christopher, Anthony, Joseph, Lawrence, Luigi, Mary Beth, Lois, Amy and Patricia; and

Whereas, in 1976, with continued support from their community, Lorenzo purchased the adjoining property, a local establishment adjacent to Lorenzo’s Restaurant, which became the place where his five sons expanded the family business; and

Whereas, together, the brothers continued their family’s legacy, opening “Lanzi’s on the Lake” in 1993, Sport Island Pub in 1997, Partner’s Pub in 2009, Lakeside Tavern in 2013 and, most recently, returning to their family’s roots on Amsterdam’s south side, “Lorenzo’s Southside” in 2020; and

Whereas, on this occasion, we pause to acknowledge the past 100 years of the Lanzi family business, celebrate their success and thank them for their service and contributions to our community.

Congratulations again to this wonderful family-owned business that carries an amazing history and shows us the importance of family, preserving tradition and dedication to our community. My heartfelt thanks for always treating me like family.
