Palumbo Urges Funding In Final Budget for American Legion Program
Assemblyman Anthony Palumbo (R,C,I,Ref-New Suffolk) joined his colleagues in the Assembly Minority last week in sending a letter to the governor and legislative leaders urging them to include $150,000 for the American Legion Boys State program in the final budget. The American Legion Boys State is a week-long program held at SUNY Morrisville that takes qualified high school seniors and offers them first-class citizenship and leadership training. During the program students are exposed to government operations in New York, physical fitness and teamwork under the guidance of American Legion counselors and active duty Marines.
I encourage the governor and legislative leaders to set aside funding in the final budget for this year for the American Legion Boys State program, said Palumbo. This is a wonderful initiative for ambitious and community-oriented students. Its crucial we continue to provide opportunities for rising stars in our communities. The more opportunities we provide for young people, the more we set them up for success later in life.
