Assemblyman Wieder Advocates for Rockland Child Care Vouchers in Albany Meetings
Assemblyman Aron Wieder recently held key meetings in Albany to address challenges with childcare voucher access for Rockland County families. The initiative followed outreach from numerous childcare providers in the district, who contacted his office for help. Providers reported difficulties obtaining vouchers for eligible children in their care, due to funding limitations and uneven distribution that frequently shortchanges Rockland County.
Assemblyman Wieder first arranged a meeting with Assembly Andrew Hevesi, Chair of the Assembly Standing Committee on Children and Families. The discussion centered on the need for greater equity in the state’s Child Care Assistance Program and additional resources to support working families and providers in areas like Rockland. Assembly Hevesi engaged constructively on potential policy and funding improvements.
Following that productive conversation, representatives from the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS), which administers the voucher program, joined the discussion. A group of childcare providers from the 97th District participated, sharing their experiences and advocating for Rockland to receive its fair share of vouchers to help more children access reliable affordable care.
Assemblyman Wieder described both meetings as very productive and expressed hope that the combined dialogue would lead to meaningful progress. His office remains available to assist residents of the 97th District with any issues involving state agencies, utility companies, or related concerns. Constituents are encouraged to contact the office for assistance in navigating these systems or pursuing solutions.
