Assemblyman Jones: Additional Funding Awarded to Citizen Advocates for Harison Place Project
Assemblyman Billy Jones (D-Chateaugay Lake) announced that the Citizen Advocates’ Housing and Homelessness Assistance Program will receive $4.7 million in funding from New York State Homes and Community Renewal (NYSHCR) for the Harison Place Project in the Village of Malone.
“The North Country is in dire need of high-quality affordable housing,” said Assemblyman Jones. “The Harison Place Project will be a great boon to the Malone community, not only providing low-income residents and those in need of supportive services a safe place to call home, but also helping to revitalize this downtown area. I’ve long been a vocal advocate for this project and greatly look forward to seeing it get underway.”
The $22 million commercial and residential development will bring affordable housing to Malone by demolishing and redeveloping blighted buildings on West Main Street. The project will consist of a four-story building with 40 apartments – half reserved for adults who need supportive services – and commercial storefronts on the ground floor. Citizen Advocates has committed $6.7 million of its own funding to the Harison Place Project, which has been designated a Priority Project by the North Country Economic Development Council.
