Assemblyman Billy Jones: Statement on State Budget

“While I have been frustrated with missing the budget deadline, I have continued to push for more relief for hardworking North Country residents. We should not be burdened with more taxes, and our counties should not have to take on the costs of Medicaid due to the Governor’s proposal to shift these costs. The budget must also fully fund foundational aid for our schools and keep the charter school cap to make sure our children get the education they deserve, and educators have the tools and resources they need to teach their students. I also continue to push for funding for SUNY schools and community colleges, as well as funding for road and water infrastructure to make necessary improvements to keep our roads and drinking water safe. There has been a lot of discussion about bail reform and housing plans because my colleagues and I have been working hard to come to an agreement that works for all New Yorkers, but I am ready to return to Albany next week and have high hopes we will be able to pass the state budget.”
