Assemblyman Jones: County and Local Leaders Should Advocate for Federal Funds
I have called upon our federal representatives to ensure that state and local governments in New York are the recipients of additional funding from any future stimulus package. New York State, and its residents, benefitted from previous stimulus packages, and while this is appreciated, we must have direct support to our state and local governments. Local leaders are seeing firsthand the impact government and human services are having during this crisis, and we need to be sure they have adequate funding to carry out their missions and pay their employees. Our businesses have been hit hard, which has unequivocally had an impact on our state and county sales tax revenue, and without additional funding, critical services to our senior citizens, infrastructure, and healthcare may very well be threatened.
That is why I am asking my colleagues in county and local government to do the same and call on our federal leaders. We must stand together and stand up for New York State residents to be sure we have what we need to combat the virus.
