“Upon the heels of the announcement Friday that Prime Minister Trudeau intended to open the Canadian border to fully vaccinated U.S. Citizens sometime in August, today’s announcement giving a hard date of August 9th is beyond welcomed news. Every indication had been given that the U.S. border would reopen if Canada made these steps, so I now call on our federal partners, including the Biden Administration, to prioritize fully and safely reopening the border. It has been 16 long months since the closure of the United States-Canada border and the United States most also provide a date for opening which would give families, property owners, and local businesses a concrete date that they can look forward to freely crossing into either country. It is necessary for the overall well-being of our residents and our economies to have the border opened on both sides and I look forward to working with officials to see this to fruition.”
