Curran Applauds Decision to Finally Broadcast Assembly Committee Meetings
Assemblyman Brian Curran (Lynbrook-21st A.D.) today responded to the decision to allow committee meetings to be recorded and broadcast to the citizens of New York
“As an advocate for openness and trust between elected officials and their constituents, I am happy that Assembly Majority finally decided to enact what I and my fellow Minority have been calling for since 2016: the broadcasting of committee meetings to the general public. This is a basic step toward bringing transparency back to the people of New York, and while I am glad the Majority finally decided to enact this change, it is disappointing that it took them seven years to do so,” said Curran.
Since 2016 Minority lawmakers in the Assembly have supported measures that would increase transparency in Albany and have pressured Majority to support them as well. Curran cited this long-standing support as the reason this decision was made.
“Make no mistake, without the Minority pressuring the Majority in the Assembly, this important reform would not have happened. Albany has been embroiled in controversy over the past few years due to corruption and a lack of transparency, and while this reform is not all that is needed to bring openness to Albany, it is certainly a step in the right direction,” concluded Curran
