Curran Opposes Hochul’s Suburban Over-Densification Plan
Today, Assemblyman Brian Curran (Lynbrook-21st A.D.) joined Assemblyman Ed Ra (R-Franklin Square), Hempstead Town Supervisor Donald Clavin Jr., Lynbrook Mayor Alan Beach, Rockville Centre Mayor Francis Murray and his Minority colleagues to voice their opposition to Gov. Hochul’s suburban over-densification plan. The plan would require local townships and villages to build high-rise housing at a level set by Gov. Hochul or risk having their zoning boards overruled by the state.
“The governor's housing plan is fundamentally wrong for Long Island. One of the things we pride ourselves on is the character of our villages. To not allow the community to decide what they want their neighborhoods to look like is just plain wrong. What is even worse is that Gov. Hochul has decided to threaten villages if they do not comply with her wishes. Home rule and local control over zoning is essential, not to mention that the services our villages offer to residents are not equipped to deal with such a large influx of people. For those reasons I oppose Gov. Hochul’s high-rise plan and urge all my colleagues to do the same,” said Curran
