Curran Celebrates Valley Stream Young Leaders
Over the weekend, Assemblyman Brian Curran (Lynbrook-21st A.D.) hosted a “Young Leaders In The 21st” event. This event honored young people who make a positive difference in their community. The following people from Valley Stream were honored:
- Eliana Rueda- Eliana Rueda was born on January 10, 2012, in Brooklyn and attended P.S. 261 from Pre-K to first grade. In June 2019, she moved to Long Island, and she now attends William L. Buck Elementary School. Her personal interests are playing the piano and violin. Another one of her favorite activities is being part of a dance competition team. The two most important things that she values are her family and her faith. During her time at WLB, she had the privilege to serve as Vice Treasurer (4th grade), Vice Secretary (5th grade) and Vice President (6th grade). She also had the honor to participate in the All County Music Festival and NYSSMA as a violinist.
- Azaan Butt- Azaan Butt is the embodiment of an exceptional leader with qualities that truly deserve recognition. In his role as Student Council President, Azaan stands out for his excellent leadership skills, actively engaging with his peers, advocating for student concerns and fostering a positive and thriving school environment. Azaan’s commitment to promoting inclusivity and respect among his classmates is evident through his involvement in initiatives such as No Place for Hate. By consistently setting a positive example as both a student and an individual, Azaan demonstrates integrity, empathy and an unwavering dedication in all of his endeavors. Through his exemplary character and inspirational leadership, Azaan Butt ignites motivation among his peers and significantly contributes to the overall success and well-being of our school community.
“Young people are powerful. All throughout history, youth movements have had a tremendous impact on the way society thinks, acts and runs. Even today, it is young people who continue to lead the charge in the fight for equality and justice for all. I want to encourage young people to be bold. Change the world. Don’t be afraid to be a part of something bigger. Young people are a powerful group, and with great power comes great responsibility. Use your powers to make our small planet a better place Eliana and Azaan are great examples of young leaders,” Curran said.
