Assemblyman Brian Curran (Lynbrook-21^st A.D.) voted for two budget bills that contain common-sense tough-on-crime policies. The first would allow the aggregation of the value of property stolen through a common scheme or plan to be charged as grand larceny (A.8805-C), the second would create a tax credit to allow businesses to spend on retail theft prevention (A.8809-B).

“It is a fact that in 2022 retail businesses lost a total of $4 billion due to retail theft and in 2023 in New York City shoplifting increased by over 60%, that is simply unacceptable. Any avenue that can be taken to crack down on crime must be explored, my record shows I will always stand against criminals and this is no different, I was proud to vote in favor of these tough-on-crime proposals,” said Curran.
