Curran Votes to Fully Fund Schools
Assemblyman Brian Curran (Lynbrook-21st A.D.) voted to fully fund Nassau County schools. This is a result of Curran’s opposition to the governor’s proposed cuts to foundation aid, which were not included in the final budget, as well as the restoration of the Hold Harmless and a compromised inflation factor to the formula which resulted in additional aid. Schools in Curran’s district received the following amounts of funding:
- Baldwin Union Free School District: $53,654,600
- East Rockaway Union Free School District: $9,586,393
- Freeport Union Free School District: $147,361,361
- Hempstead Union Free School District: $243,418,136
- Hewlett-Woodmere Union Free School District: $21,974,987
- Lynbrook Union Free School District: $20,794,912
- Malverne Union Free School District: $20,518,928
- Oceanside Union Free School District: $35,774,182
- Rockville Centre Union Free School District: $21,126,080
- Uniondale Union Free School District: $113,873,863
- Valley Stream Central High School District: $62,833,006
- Valley Stream Union Free School District 13: $25,519,224
- Valley Stream Union Free School District 24: $14,776,031
- West Hempstead Union Free School District: $17,799,315
“I was proud to vote to fully fund our schools, our children’s education is paramount, and we must ensure they are funded to the greatest extent possible to meet their needs. I will always look out for our children, and I am glad the governor and Legislature listened to me and my colleagues and took all cuts to foundation aid out of the budget,” said Curran.
