Miller Congratulates Yak’s Youth Center on Receiving 2024 Community Impact Small Business of The Year Award

Assemblyman Brian Miller (R,C-New Hartford) proudly recognizes Yak's Youth Center for its outstanding contribution to the Oneonta community, as the New York Small Business Development Center (NYSBDC) presents the “2024 Community Impact Small Business of the Year” Award. Miller offers congratulations to Heather Boxill-Yakalis and her entire team at Yak's Youth Center for their remarkable achievement and invaluable service to the families of Oneonta. Boxill-Yakalis, founder and owner of Yak's Youth Center, has made an extraordinary impact on the community by addressing the critical need for child care in the Oneonta area.

What began as a small, home-based child care service has grown into a vital community resource, now employing 28 dedicated staff members and serving between 84 and 100 children daily. Yak's Youth Center has not only filled a significant void left by the closure of another local daycare provider but has also become a cornerstone of the community, offering a vibrant and secure environment where children can learn, play and grow. Boxill-Yakalis’ added extended hours, which demonstrate her ongoing dedication to meeting the evolving needs of the community.

“The growth of Yak's Youth Center from a small, home-based operation to a thriving community asset underscores the importance of supporting local businesses and providing resources for entrepreneurs. Heather's commitment to our community is making a real difference, and I look forward to seeing Yak's Youth Center continue to flourish and expand its services,” said Miller.
