Statement From Assembly Minority Leader Brian M. Kolb
Driving is a privilege, not a right. As the Green Light Law goes into effect today, extreme liberals have extended that privilege to those who are actively breaking the law.
With illegal immigrants now able to obtain New York State drivers licenses, the Majority politicians in Albany once again demonstrate where their misplaced priorities lie. They are not interested in reducing taxes on hard-working families, helping businesses create jobs or developing solutions to stem the tide of people leaving New York for other states.
This misguided law is a product of disastrous one-party rule in Albany. Despite objections from county clerks across the state, public polling that has showed widespread opposition for months and concerns from federal law enforcement officials, New York Majority politicians have put out a welcome mat for people in our country illegally.
New York Majority politicians will celebrate the Green Light Law even though questions remain regarding the legality and constitutionality of the bill. Their actions have further diminished our laws, threatened the integrity of our elections and undermined the privileges of American citizenship.
