Maher Announces State Construction Aid for Libraries Serving Sullivan and Ulster Counties
Assemblyman Brian Maher (R,C-Walden) announced today that two public libraries in the 101st Assembly District have been awarded state funding through the State Aid for Library Construction Program, supported by a $44 million capital appropriation in the 2024–25 State Budget.
The following libraries in Maher’s district will receive construction aid:
- Livingston Manor Free Library, $8,136: Installation of new subflooring and top flooring on the first floor and complete internet cable wiring on the second floor to improve accessibility and technology infrastructure at its Main Street location in Livingston Manor.
- Morton Memorial Library, $14,512: Funding will replace its oil-based heating system with a more energy-efficient heat pump, improving sustainability and reducing long-term energy costs at its Pine Hill facility.
“These investments help ensure our local libraries remain safe, accessible and equipped to serve their communities,” said Maher. “From technology upgrades to energy improvements, these projects strengthen libraries as essential community hubs.”
The funding is part of a statewide initiative in which the New York State Education Department and New York State Library approved 212 construction projects across New York. The State Library provides technical assistance and reviews each application before submission to the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY) to ensure projects are well prepared and eligible for funding.
Many of New York’s public libraries—more than one-third of which are over 100 years old—face ongoing infrastructure challenges, including outdated wiring, accessibility needs and energy inefficiencies. The State Aid for Library Construction Program helps modernize facilities, expand broadband access and better serve communities of all sizes.
