Welcome to my New York State Assembly web page.
As Speaker of the Assembly, I am committed to advancing the interests of our state to help our communities thrive.Since becoming Speaker, the Assembly has passed historic pieces of legislation including changes to our antiquated criminal justice system like cash bail reform, speedy trial reform, raise the age and decriminalizing marijuana. We have also enacted sweeping election reforms to make voting easier by creating an early voting period, allowing Election Day voter registration and closing the LLC loophole.
Additionally, the Assembly Majority led the way in raising the minimum wage to $15, securing over $5.2 billion in education funding, instituting the Higher Education Road to Success and DREAM Act to ensure that all New Yorkers have access to quality higher education and establishing paid family leave.
I have also led the charge in fighting for programs that help minority communities overcome challenges they too often face. Through this mission, New York became the first state to implement My Brother's Keeper to improve outcomes for boys and young men of color. Along with my Assembly colleagues, I have also fought for increased support for MWBEs to expand economic opportunities for disadvantaged and overlooked communities.
By working together we can continue to build a stronger, healthier and more vibrant New York.
I encourage you to visit this page often to stay up to date on local and statewide issues and legislation that affect you and your community.
