Statement from Assemblywoman Catherine Nolan on New Schools in LIC and Western Queens

November 29, 2018

As the Chairwoman of the Assembly Education Committee, I have urged the city to make the necessary investments in new schools and infrastructure for the Long Island City Community. As seen in the LIC: An investment strategy (LIC.NYC – page 38), the city has responded with a number of schools that will be coming online over the next several years including the groundbreaking of a new school building for Academy of American Studies. As stated in an earlier media advisory, this event will take place with the School Construction Authority on Monday December 3rd at 3PM.

“I am proud to see the Academy of American Studies finally get a proper school building” said Assemblywoman Catherine Nolan. “Together with Principal William Bassell, our community has advocated for this school for a long time. I am grateful to Lorraine Grillo, President of the SCA for today’s announcement and look forward to the event on Monday.”

More schools and additional investments are needed for the Long Island City, Dutch Kills and portions of Western Queens. I will continue to advocate for the city to make these investments so we can keep our quality of life and communities strong.
