In collaboration with other Bronx Electeds, Congress Member Ritchie Torres, Senator Luis L. Sepulveda, Senator Jose M. Serrano, Council Member Althea Stevens, and Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson, my office hosted "The Renaissance: A Celebration of Black History” February 22nd at Bronx Borough Hall. This event was a vibrant homage to the Black community's enduring legacy and cultural contributions.

Among the distinguished honorees was Tanya Pedler, a fervent advocate and President of the Tenant Association at Morrisania Air Rights, whose tireless efforts have empowered residents and fostered community cohesion. Shaheim Harrison, a visionary Creative Director for "The VIP School Empowerment Coalition" and Founder of Surplus NYC, was also recognized for his innovative youth empowerment and urban revitalization endeavors. Marisol Riveria, the Community Relations Program Manager at The Bronx Community Justice Center, was also lauded for her dedicated service in promoting social justice and fostering dialogue within the Bronx community.

Moreover, the event spotlighted the exceptional achievements of several young individuals nominated by their educators for their outstanding contributions and promising potential. These emerging voices represent the next generation of leaders poised to make meaningful impacts within their communities and beyond.

As we reflect on the profound legacies of Black history, events like "The Renaissance" remind us of the ongoing journey towards equality, justice, and unity. Through collaborative efforts and collective engagement, we honor the past, celebrate the present, and inspire the future.
