Assemblymember Burdick Urges Colleagues to Pass an Emergency Waiver of Penalty on Late Property Tax Payments Due to Severe Winter Storm

Mount Kisco, NY – Assemblymember Chris Burdick (AD-93) yesterday circulated a letter to his colleagues, urging them to pass legislation waiving the penalty on late property tax payments caused by the Nor’easter that blasted New York on Monday.

"The massive Nor-easter which slammed New York yesterday, February 1, also shut down roads on the day that property taxes were due for many New Yorkers.I am requesting your support for legislation to allow further time for such payment without penalty. It would apply in the counties which Governor Cuomo by Executive Order 209 declared a disaster due to the “imminent danger” the storm posed.

As no doubt you are aware, municipal offices were closed, post offices most likely were closed and citizens were instructed to stay off the roads. It would not have been possible for property taxpayers, already struggling to pay their bills due to the impact of the pandemic, to pay their property tax bills by February 1, the last date for paying without penalty."
