Crouch Honors Local Police Investigator for Service to the Community

May 30, 2008

On Thursday, Assemblyman Cliff Crouch (R-Guilford) honored Senior Investigator Steven A. Andersen for his admirable service in pursuit of justice as a member of New York State Police Troop C Forensic Identification Unit (FIU). Crouch presented Andersen with a citation at the 32nd Annual State Police Awards Day Ceremony at the New York State Police Academy.

“Steve Andersen has dedicated his life to the pursuit of justice, and it was an honor to recognize him for his hard work at this year’s Annual State Police Awards Day Ceremony,” said Crouch. “With the multiple state trooper shootings, 2007 was a very difficult year for the state police. However, due to the painstaking effort of Senior Investigator Andersen, the state police were able to close the cases involving Troopers Matthew Gombosi and David Brinkerhoff, and bring some closure to the community.”

As a member of the FIU, Andersen undertook multiple crime scenes during 2007, including several homicide investigations, the most time-consuming being the attempted murder of Trooper Matthew Gombosi and the fatal shooting of Trooper David Brinkerhoff. Andersen’s expertise and dedication led to a complete account of the circumstances surrounding the death of Brinkerhoff, despite a complex crime scene that had been destroyed by fire.
