Crouch Pushes Back against Legislation Aimed at Issuing Driver’s Licenses to Undocumented Immigrants

Assemblyman Clifford W. Crouch (R-Bainbridge) pushed back against the recent announcement by state Majority politicians to move forward with a bill known as the “Green Light” bill which aims to issue driver’s licenses to undocumented immigrants in New York State. According to a Siena Poll taken in March, 61% of New Yorkers oppose the idea.

“We should not be issuing driver’s licenses to individuals who are here illegally,” said Crouch. “This isn’t about being for or against immigration; this is about following and enforcing our laws, plain and simple. We as a nation and state have laws in place for a reason; we should not be rewarding individuals who break them. I am fully supportive of immigration and extending the right to driver’s licenses to people who immigrate to New York, but it should only be a privilege extended to individuals who have gone through the proper process of becoming a citizen and are here legally.”
