Crouch Voices Opposition to Legislation Giving New Yorks Inmates a Pay Raise
June 4, 2019
Assemblyman Clifford W. Crouch (R-Bainbridge) voiced his opposition to a bill A.8080 which came up in the Assembly Committee on Correction today that would grant inmate workers a pay raise and cost of living adjustment every 5 years. If the Assembly Majority focused as much energy on turning the state around as they do catering to inmates, maybe New York wouldnt be ranked among the worst in the country when it comes to tax burden, said Crouch. This state is facing far greater issues than whether or not inmates in New York should become among the highest paid inmate workers in the country. Our infrastructure is outdated and crumbling all over the state, outmigration numbers continue to rise, and Assembly Majority members want to focus on giving inmates a pay raise? We should be focusing on reducing spending and reducing the tax burden on the working class, not increasing spending and giving inmates a pay raise.
