Crouch Voices Opposition to ‘Green Light’ Bill

June 5, 2019

Assemblyman Clifford W. Crouch (R-Bainbridge) voiced his opposition to a bill that was passed in Assembly Committee on Transportation today known as the “Green Light Bill” which aims to issue driver’s licenses to undocumented immigrants in New York state. Crouch joined many other members of the Assembly Minority in opposition and made note that the Assembly Majority blocked one of his bills in the same committee meeting that would require proof of authorization to stay in the United States in order for a driver’s license to be issued.

“We should not be issuing drivers licenses to people who are here illegally,” said Crouch. “I am all for immigration and encouraging people to come to the US but those who do so must come here legally. Issuing drivers licenses to undocumented immigrants who are here illegally legitimizes this method of immigration and encourages it to continue. I cannot support this legislation and encourage my colleagues across the aisle to reconsider their stance.”
