Assemblyman David DiPietro (R,C-East Aurora) condemned the latest act of political violence targeting President Donald J. Trump and called for an end to the hateful rhetoric poisoning our national discourse.

“I am sickened by tonight’s events,” said DiPietro. “Another attempt on the President’s life. For years, the hateful rhetoric and constant demonization of this President and anyone who supports him has created a toxic environment that is now producing real violence. This has to stop. We are better than this as a nation.

“We are a country built on freedom, not fear. Millions of patriotic Americans who love this nation are done watching this cycle of rage and division. The violence must end. Our leaders, President Trump and his entire Cabinet, deserve to serve without the shadow of assassination attempts hanging over them. I pray for their safety, for the protection of their families, and for the men and women of the Secret Service who put their lives on the line.

“It’s time for all Americans who love this country to speak up and reject hatred for unity. God bless President Trump, God bless his Cabinet, and God bless the United States of America,” DiPietro concluded.
