SAFE Act Continues Assault on Rights as Controversy Grows
Assemblyman David DiPietro (R, C-East Aurora) expressed concern over Gov. Cuomo’s NY SAFE Act, which has garnered increased scrutiny after a law-abiding citizen had his guns confiscated in a case of mistaken identity. Despite many objections about enforcement of the issue, the provision pertaining to the amount of bullets a magazine may hold has become law.
“In the wake of the gross violations of the right to bear arms, the right to stand against improper search and seizure, and the right to due process on one of our citizens, Gov. Cuomo and the liberal left are allowing the provisions of the SAFE Act to continue to roll out. Today, the newest provision, limiting the number of bullets allowed in a magazine, becomes the law of the land. This provision is completely unenforceable and is a tactic being used to intimidate law-abiding citizens from availing themselves of their Second Amendment rights. I will continue to fight for a complete repeal of this law.”
Assemblyman DiPietro has authored Assembly Bill 6238, calling for a full repeal of the SAFE Act. For more information regarding this legislation, please contact his district office at (585) 786-0180. He can also be reached via e-mail at dipietrod@assembly.state.ny.us.
