DiPietro Announces Victory In OPWDD Restoration
Assemblyman David DiPietro (R,C-East Aurora) today is pleased to announce that the $90 million cut to the Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) has officially been restored. DiPietro stood with his colleagues during budget negotiations and refused to vote for a budget that cut $90 million in funding to critical developmental disabilities programs. On Friday, Gov. Cuomo signed a bill reinstating the funding.
“During the budget negotiations in March and April, I fought to prevent the budget from becoming law without this $90 million,” DiPietro said. “We passed a resolution telling the governor that we would not stand for cutting programs which affect the developmentally disabled. I am proud to say that the consistent pressure applied by the people of New York and myself brought back this large sum of money to protect the most vulnerable in our society. Restoring this money is the right thing to do, and I’m glad it’s finally been done.”
