DiPietro: Tide Turning Against Governor And Common Core
Assemblyman David DiPietro (R,C – East Aurora) is encouraged by the recent string of good news regarding the battle to reform the Common Core curriculum in New York State.
“It appears that more and more elected officials are joining our fight to restore New York’s education system because of vocal opposition by the people,” said DiPietro. “The governor and Commissioner King have greatly mismanaged the implementation of Common Core, and it has hurt New York’s children. Gov. Cuomo, in typical fashion, had to be the first one to implement this radical change in education policy to advance his own political aspirations at the expense of the children.
“We’ve also seen the Board of Regents move forward on reforms this week that will delay the controversial Common Core testing until at least 2022,” DiPietro added. “By that point, we will know for certain the future of the Common Core program. We will not allow for the children of New York to be a case study in radical education policy.”
DiPietro is a supporter of the Assembly Minority Conference’s APPLE plan to reform the Common Core curriculum. The APPLE plan is a list of recommendations created with input from public forums that included teachers, students, parents, and school officials.
