DiPietro: Bring Pension Forfeiture To The Floor Today
A statement by Assemblyman David DiPietro (R,C-East Aurora)
Another member of the Assembly Majority is leaving the chamber in disgrace with a guilty plea. Assemblyman William Scarborough will plead guilty to defrauding the taxpayers of New York for over $40,000 in per diem abuses. The people of New York still will be funding his pension. It wasn’t bad enough he already took the people for $40,000, we’re also on the hook for his retirement. This system is clearly broken. Pension forfeiture was allegedly agreed upon during the budget process, but the Majority refuses to bring the legislation to the floor for a vote. This is unacceptable. We cannot allow people who abuse the public trust to continue to profit off the people.
Assemblyman DiPietro is the lead sponsor of Assembly Bill 4659, which would strip elected officials of their pensions following a felony conviction relating to their office.
