DiPietro Statement On Gov. Cuomo Calling For A Comprehensive Review Of Common Core
“For the past two years, my colleagues in the Assembly Minority Conference and I have called on Gov. Cuomo and the Assembly Majority to authorize a review of the Common Core Curriculum and halt the implementation of that curriculum during the review. The governor followed our lead in regard to reviewing the curriculum, but he must also put a stop to a curriculum that he admits has lost the confidence of our children, our teachers and our local school boards. It is a self-evident truth that Common Core is flawed, and those of us who have studied it don’t expect it to survive a comprehensive review. The momentum continues to be on the side of those who seek to return classrooms to local teachers and neighborhoods and take them out of the hands of federal bureaucrats.”
Assemblyman David DiPietro (R,C-East Aurora) is a sponsor of Assembly Bill A.3656, better known as the APPLE Plan, which would halt the implementation of Common Core and authorize a comprehensive review. The legislation was blocked this year by the Assembly Majority in the Education Committee.
