Ironic: Silver Goes Up For Retrial and the Assembly Majority Block Ethics Bill
A statement by Assemblyman David DiPietro (R,C,I-East Aurora) on the Public Officers Accountability Act.
April 17, 2018
“It’s a tired old trope in Albany that the cry for ethics reform is often ignored.” DiPietro said. “The very day that the Silver retrial starts we have the most comprehensive package of bills to introduce real ethics reform in the Assembly blocked by the Assembly Majority.
“The irony is absolutely palpable. I had hoped that with the results of the Percoco trial we could put some wind back in the sails of real ethics reform, but it seems that the Public Officers Accountability Act (A5864), a bill that would have prevented Silver’s actions, is going to languish at the hands of our peers across the aisle. It’s truly a shame, when will they wake up and push back against the status quo of corruption in Albany?”
