Pandemic in the Streets but Derision in Albany

A statement by Assemblyman David DiPietro (R,C,I-East Aurora))on the 2020-21 Legislative Budget.

“I am thoroughly disgusted by the sheer amount of parlor tricks and games that got played in the budget while we’re fighting the COVID-19 outbreak. Instead of passing small-business relief, financing the state’s bills, and focusing solely to the task at hand, the Majority politicians and Gov. Cuomo took the opportunity to pack the budget with a smear of terrible policy and ideas. Gutting home-rule for localities, public finance of campaigns which could cost upwards of $100 million, and then inane things like changing the state flag. That’s not to mention the $90 million specifically to the Assembly Majority amongst their members for pet project, during an international pandemic! The budget is late, we’re in a crisis, and this is what the one-party rule in New York gets you? We deserve better than this. We deserve to stand together in a time like this and fight back against a virus, not manipulate legislative systems to serve a deranged ideological agenda. Fund the government and fight the virus. Period!”
