McDonough: Address ‘Blood Alley’ Section Of Southern St. Parkway
Assemblyman Dave McDonough (R,C,I-Merrick), Ranking Minority Member on the Assembly Transportation Committee, Wednesday spoke at the Joint Legislative Budget Hearing on Transportation and raised concerns directly to Transportation Commissioner Matthew Driscoll over stretches of the Southern State Parkway in Nassau County. McDonough called for the Department of Transportation to address a section of the highway notoriously dubbed ‘Blood Alley,’ due to its dangerous curves and frequent accidents.
“Many residents in my district are extremely concerned about this section of the Southern State Parkway,” McDonough said. “I realize it is not plausible to rebuild the parkway, but something has to be done to mitigate the high number of accidents and deaths that occur here every year. This is a major artery on Long Island and our constituents deserve safety when traveling.”
