Albany, New York – Assemblyman David Weprin was appointed Chair of the New York Assembly Committee on Correction for the 2017 – 2018 Legislative Session.

Elected to represent the 24th Assembly District in Queens in 2010, Weprin previously served in leadership positions as the Secretary of the Assembly Majority Conference and as Chair of the Assembly Task Force on People with Disabilities. Additionally, in 2001, Weprin was elected to the New York City Council by the people of the 23rd Council District in Queens and within weeks of taking office, Weprin was appointed Chair of the Council’s Finance Committee.

As Chair of the Assembly Committee on Correction, Weprin is supportive of plans to reform the bail/pre-trail detention system and initiatives to raise the age of criminal responsibility.
