Assemblymember Barrett: State Budget Ensures Critical Funding for Local Governments
For our town and village governments, tight budgets are a continuing reality. These budgetary pressures force local leaders to try to balance essential services with keeping property taxes down. Thats why a provision included in the executive budget proposal that would have slashed $59 million in Aid and Incentives to Municipalities (AIM) funding was so troubling. From the minute it was proposed, my Assembly colleagues and I pushed back, and our efforts paid off. The enacted 2019-20 state budget fully funds our municipalities, protecting over $750,000 in state aid for Hudson Valley towns and villages I represent.[1]
At the same time, Columbia and Dutchess counties will see increased revenue from the county-portion of an internet sales tax. This critical funding will help enable our counties to continue to provide the services that our families rely on.
