Smith Calls for Release of Billions for Education Safety and Technology Investments

A statement from Assemblyman Doug Smith 5th Assembly District

“In 2014 voters approved $2 billion towards the Smart Schools Bond Act. These funds would cover critical technology infrastructure, school security improvements and improved education to ensure a better and safer future for students throughout the State. I am calling on Gov. Cuomo to streamline the approval process in order to disburse these funds our schools need to prevent another national tragedy.”

“Only in Cuomo’s Albany does an approval process get stuck, in fact during his entire second term, over $1.2 Billion Dollars have languished in Albany over four school years. These delays not only cost our schools more money, but every minute that goes by we put our children at risk. The state needs to step up and create a process that works. Our schools are doing their part, they expect that our government can do theirs and release the funds they need to keep our students safe.”

“The people of this state deserve to understand where their hard-earned money goes, and it’s time we open the blinds to expose corruption. Cuomo announced his “first 100-days” in his State of the State Address but he expects us to forget the other 3,285 days for which we haven’t seen enough meaningful change. You only get one chance to make a first impression, I think it’s time we spend time making New York safer and more affordable. I will continue fighting to release the funds for the Smart Schools Bond Act and hold our governor accountable for his lack of action in keeping our children safe.”
